It’s no secret that there are many beneficial uses for technology, especially considering how much of our life is now handled remotely. Children are now learning, socializing, and playing through a screen.

But too much screen time has been found to impact brain development, especially in younger children. When it comes to the never-ending tech debate, it can be easy to find yourself fighting for either side. So how do we balance the scale?

The Good

The learning opportunities are endless. Your child can attend school and meet with their class through web conferencing, right in the comfort of their own home. They can use apps and games to learn a new language.

They can learn to collaborate with others and build projects in a way that can help better prepare them for work in the real world someday. It also allows them to experience trial-and-error and problems solving while receiving feedback on their hard work.

]]> Why FTP Servers are Still Relevant https://innotechtoday.com/why-ftp-servers-are-still-relevant/ Mon, 06 Jul 2020 10:00:43 +0000 https://innotechtoday.com/?p=142331&preview=true&preview_id=142331 <![CDATA[Why FTP Servers are Still Relevant

First developed in 1971, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) servers have long served a key part in data communication. Before the advent of Transfer Connection Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP), FTP was working to connect different systems and allow convenient transference and manipulation of files. While mainstream use of FTP is now being somewhat usurped in favor of newer methods, it’s important to note the FTP will always be superior in some cases, and in this article, we want to explore why.

What Exactly is FTP?

For the average user, FTP might appear similar to common HTTP downloads, but there are a few major points of disparity. The first is that, while HTTP is used to access websites, FTP is involved with directly transferring files from a host to a client. In doing this, FTP also establishes connections for both data and control, whereas HTTP only involves data.

FTP also is more efficient at large file transfers than HTTP and requires a password for access.

Retail Giant Spends $1B+ for Zoox AV Startup

Amazon appears to be looking for new markets to dominate, including future robotaxis, as it last week added autonomous vehicle (AV) developer Zoox to its portfolio. While the transaction numbers were not disclosed, based on the valuation of the company it is believed that Amazon spent about $1.2 billion to buy Zoox. It will run as an independent unit of Amazon, although of course there’s speculation that its AV technology could find its way into Amazon delivery vehicles at some point.

Zoox originally planned to have its purpose-built autonomous ride service (ARS) vehicles prowling the streets of San Francisco looking for customers this year. While the company’s technology progressed rapidly during its six years of existence, and the company had attracted substantial funding, it appeared to come up short earlier this year, and its founders approached an investment firm to “shop itself around,” which led to the Amazon deal.
