A WOMAN who went for a nose job was left shocked when doctors cut off a part of her ear to use on her nose.

The woman, identified only by the surname Zhao, also found that her headphones kept falling out when she tried to use them following the rhinoplasty surgery in Chengdu, China in September.

The 31-year-old had a nose job five years ago and decided to get another one and an arm liposuction surgery, costing her around £5,700, Chinese news site The Paper reports.

The operation reportedly lasted from 9am until the early afternoon and was seemingly successful.

Zhao said she felt good afterwards and didn’t notice anything unusual until four days later when she realised that her ear did not feel the same.

The patient then realised that something was missing and that her tragus, which is the small pointed part of the inner ear, had been removed during the surgery without her knowledge.

Zhao said she was in disbelief that the doctor would do something like that without her consent.

The disgruntled patient told local media that the use of her tragus in the operation was not specified beforehand and that she had expected the doctor to use the cartilage from behind the ear.

She immediately contacted the hospital’s customer service and sent photos of her ear.

The hospital reportedly said it was a normal procedure and that removal of the ear cartilage from the back of the auricle can cause ear atrophy, so doctors took cartilage from the tragus instead.

The 31-year-old said she had consulted with several doctors in plastic surgery hospitals who confirmed that cartilage from behind the ear is commonly used for rhinoplasty as it doesn’t affect the appearance, nor physiological functions of the ear.

Yuan, the vice president of the hospital’s administration, told local media that Zhao gave her informed consent by signing an agreement before the surgery.

The document reportedly stated “cartilage for rhinoplasty” would be used, which included the whole ear.

Zhao is now unable to use her headphones in her right ear and says she feels quite embarrassed by its appearance.

She has also demanded a full refund, compensation and plastic surgery to repair the ear from the hospital.

The hospital has allegedly refused this request and there have been various episodes of conflict at the hospital, resulting in police intervention, The Paper reports.
